EcoHealth Alliance is seeking a highly-organized, collaborative, and self-driven Research Associate to work with our USAID PREDICT-2 Global Behavioral Risk Surveillance team. This position is ideal for master’s degree recipients with experience working in team-oriented, professional environments who have an interest in preventing emerging infectious disease pandemics and implementing capacity-building programs around the world. The successful candidate will lead the management, cleaning, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data on behavioral risk factors that can contribute to the emergence of infectious zoonotic disease pandemics. The analyses will be used to develop potential behavioral risk mitigation interventions. The Behavioral Risk Research Associate will work closely with other staff including scientists with expertise in: human and animal ecological and biological surveillance, laboratory diagnostics, modeling and analytics, and behavioral ethnography. Some international and domestic travel may be required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data to understand behavioral risk factors that can lead to zoonotic disease emergence
- Provide evidence-based recommendations for behavioral risk mitigation interventions to prevent zoonotic disease emergence
- Provide all necessary support to our Global Behavioral Risk Surveillance Director and Program Coordinator as well as research and field staff through data collection and analysis, IRB package submission and monitoring, project management, and meeting coordination
- Contribute to technical reports for the US Government and to manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed journals
- Contribute to proposals relevant to global public health, epidemiology, biosurveillance, and behavioral risk mitigation
OTHER DUTIES
- Represent EcoHealth Alliance at international and domestic conferences, in-country meetings, and other venues
- Work effectively with in-country and other collaborators
- Serve as a spokesperson for EcoHealth Alliance at conferences, scientific and public meetings, in the media, and through lectures
- Assist with writing high quality scientific manuscripts for publication and reports (technical and general for the lay public)
- Manage personal EcoHealth Alliance timesheets and credit card reports
- Participate in other projects and tasks as required or assigned by supervisor
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of a master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, social science or related field
- Five or more years of experience conducting health research (including study design, quantitative and qualitative data collection and analyses, and reporting writing)
- Three or more years of project management experience including ability to set and meet deadlines, and manage financial accountability requirements
- Experience collaborating on large teams with members from diverse backgrounds
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Fluency in R
- Experience working with Institutional Review Board (IRB) clearances
- Subject matter expertise in global public health, epidemiology, and social sciences
- Experience conducting health research in resource-constrained environments
- Record of peer-reviewed publications
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Content knowledge on zoonotic diseases
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- Ability to read, write, and speak a second language
