We are a new branch that has merged some other teams and now needs talented people to drive work in several areas. The Sector Trends team needs 2 Principals, a Senior Analyst and an Analyst. Sector Trends is a top analytics team that uses cutting edge open source tools and statistical methods. It needs data superheroes – people who thrive running data analysis, producing cutting edge visualisations, building new data collections and developing the data infrastructure to support them.
Principal Analysts lead our engagement with the sector and Ministers in their domain of expertise. They are responsible for prioritisation, change management, quality control, and leading and mentoring the Senior Analysts and Analysts they work with. You should be smart, engaged, eager to learn, to solve problems, and to teach what you’ve learned so that others can make use of your findings.
Senior Analysts should be experienced people with a strong quantitative background who aren’t afraid of computer code; but also have strategic thinking, great communication skills, customer focus and the ability to shape up a complex programme of work in a sometimes controversial and always fast-paced environment. As a Senior, you’ll work across a range of content areas, performing cutting edge data management, analysis and visualisation tasks and mentoring, coaching and training Analysts.
Analysts may be new or recent graduates, or people transitioning from a different role. Your experience matters, whether it is in the classroom or the open-plan office; we are not looking for “blank slates”. Analysts will be top thinkers who ask the interesting questions and can work in a project team to answer them.
In Sector Trends our Analysts are “Data Ninjas” using cutting edge open source tools like R and LaTeX. You’ll be learning new techniques and tricks every day in our constantly-innovating atmosphere.
Qualifications in statistics, econometrics, economics, or statistical computing would be a great advantage; but we’re mostly looking for people with the right attitude and the burning desire to see and understand what’s happening behind the numbers.
