About the position
The Institute of Marine Research (IMR) is Norway’s leading research institute for marine and marine research, with a strong commitment to preserving and protecting our oceans, coastal areas and marine ecosystems. Our vision is knowledge for the oceans of the future, and data is the lifeblood of our research, monitoring and consulting.
We are at the beginning of a digital transformation, where we will on a large scale use new technologies such as autonomous underwater drones, gliders, underwater robots, satellites and other sensors in the ocean that will communicate over acoustic modems underwater to collect and analyze data in new ways to enable HI to deliver on our social mission also in the future.
We are looking for two developers for further strengthening of our product team. We work according to the Scrum model, and you as an employee with us will be part of one of our interdisciplinary product teams. We are looking for developers with good experience in R.
Tasks will be system development tasks aimed at new and further development of the Institute of Marine Research’s data infrastructure. Close cooperation with research communities and other development teams at the Institute of Marine Research will be an important part of everyday work.
The positions report to the Head of Section Digital Development.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have expertise in software development and relevant experience in creating good digital solutions.
Preferably higher academic education from university or college in natural sciences. Longer work experience in the relevant subject area may compensate for parts of the educational requirement
Experience from fisheries/ecological modelling, statistics or biology is an advantage.
Competence within these systems and platforms will be most strongly emphasized:
- Programming in R
- Experience with development of R packages
Expertise within these systems and platforms is desirable:
- Reactive frameworks such as Angular/React
- REST/XML/JSON
- CI/CD pipelines
- Docker
- Work organized according to the SCRUM model
The working language at the Institute of Marine Research is Norwegian. Being able to communicate well in Norwegian is an important prerequisite both for the employee and for the department. Non-Norwegian-speaking employees are expected to complete Norwegian language courses during the first two years of employment. Norwegian language tuition will be covered by the department after completed and passed courses.

Additional information
The salary for the position is 1181 Senior Engineer, in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement of the State. A 2% contribution is deducted from the gross salary to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
