Closing Date:   Friday 09 June 2017

We invite applications for a Research Software Engineer position, joining the recently formed StatScale research programme.

StatScale is an exciting collaboration between researchers at Lancaster University and the University of Cambridge. The programme tackles the important statistical challenges arising from streaming data, focusing on both theoretical and computational aspects. This multi-million pound research initiative is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the two participating institutions and a number of committed project partners. The programme is led by Idris Eckley, Paul Fearnhead (Lancaster) and John Aston, Richard Samworth (Cambridge).

You will work with researchers on the StatScale programme to develop and promote freely available software, implementing new statistical methods and algorithms for analysing large-scale streaming data. This position is a key part of StatScale’s approach to maximising economic and societal impact from new statistical ideas. This role will also provide an opportunity to act as a beacon for good statistical computing, disseminating best practice and providing mentorship amongst the StatScale research community, including PhD students affiliated to the programme.

You should have a postgraduate degree in Statistics or a related discipline. You will have extensive knowledge of R, including package development and experience of the academic research software development cycle, including deployment, maintenance and user support.

Demonstrable ability to publish, including the ability to produce high quality academic writing is essential for this post.

This is a fixed term position available from July 2017 to 31 May 2022.
