The Vehicle Valuations Manager is a key role within the core BCA Marketplace Intelligence team. They are responsible for ensuring that BCA’s pricing models accurately predict the value of vehicles being sold at our auctions. Examples of business benefits from this analysis might include more accurate pricing of vehicles prior to sale, development of new revenue streams and reduced costs through more vehicles being sold first time. Examples of the analysis they would undertake include understanding how the follow would affect vehicle values:
• The geographic location of the vehicle
• The sales channel utilised
• When the vehicle is being sold (e.g. by month / week / day of week)
• The physical condition of the vehicle
• The vehicle derivative (make, model, specification)
• The value added services that have been applied to the vehicle (e.g. BCA Assured / Smart Prepared)
• Recent sales volumes of similar vehicles
They build analysis using BCA’s best of breed Business Intelligence solutions (SQL Server, Business Objects, R and Qlikview).
Main Responsibilities
1. Development of new analytical models to support BCA vehicle pricing. Models are to be developed in the R system following industry best practice
2. Maintenance of valuation models in production, for example managing updates to the model if a particular class of vehicle is being consistently over or under valued
3. Work with reporting team to help design simple to understand reporting dashboards to enable effective business usage of valuation outputs
4. Explain the implications of valuation models to business stakeholders in easy to understand way and help them understand any changes required to business process
5. Proactive identification of new opportunities to leverage valuation models for business advantage
6. Build good working relationship with Data Champions and other data experts in each business function
7. Support in the identification of data quality issues in the BCA data warehouse to help drive use of accurate information by all business functions across BCA
8. Support the drive towards data definition standardisation and higher organisational data quality & consistency
9. Become key evangelist for the BCA data analytics approach (business issue identification, hypothesis definition, data extraction, analytics, reporting and implementation)
10. Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in the use of data and statistical methods. Responsibility for training other resources as required
Skills and expertise
• Previously experience at CAP / Glasses / other vehicle valuation company, other experience working in valuations of other products as alternative
• Experience of using analytics software to drive business benefits (Ideally R experience but SPSS or SAS experience also useful)
• Extensive knowledge of automotive market and relevant industry metrics such as CAP, Glass, etc.
• Experience of using SQL to extract data from source systems
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of statistical approaches to understand data. E.g. Logistic regression, general linear models, decision trees, machine learning, cluster analysis, etc.
• Experience of using Business Objects and Qlikview to report information
• Advanced use of Excel and PowerPoint to report data to stakeholders
